Step into the world of aviation history at the Historic Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) Aviation Museum, located at Shellharbour Airport just a few minutes from Shellharbour Caravan Park. This award-winning attraction is home to one of the most impressive collections of historic aircraft in Australia — and it’s still growing.
Inside the massive hangars, you’ll find beautifully restored aircraft ranging from World War II bombers to commercial jets, including the iconic Qantas 747 “City of Canberra”, Neptune bombers, and Caribou transport planes. Many of the planes are still operational, and volunteers — many retired pilots and engineers — are always on hand to share their fascinating stories.
Kids and adults alike will love exploring the cockpits, peeking inside engines, and learning how these incredible machines helped shape Australia’s aviation history. If you’re lucky, your visit might coincide with one of HARS’s famous Tarmac Days, held monthly, where aircraft are brought out for tours and even engine demonstrations.
Local tip: Wear comfortable shoes and allow at least two hours to explore — the museum is large and packed with detail.
